Let's Do This!

Hello Lovelies,

Did you miss me?  I know it's been a little, but I hope all is well!  So, today I wanted to talk about life, and jobs, and general craziness.  I don't know if it's something in the water or what, but I mean, really and truly everyone I know is talking about how much they hate their job lately.  And it's wackado that it's like everyone complaining! So today, I really wanted to talk to you guys about what to do with your life, I guess.  Like when you hate your job, what do you do?  Personally, I feel like if you're not happy, you spend probably the majority of your time at work, so if you're not happy, just leave.  Make your life a smidgeon better, maybe eons better, it depends on how unhappy you are, but you know, do something about it, don't just tolerate it and let it slowly eat at you.  That's just miserable for everyone.

So I kind of come at this with a little bit of experience because I was in retail for three years, and it was fine.  Like, yeah, I had those days where I hated my job, we all do, but for the most part it was fine.  Then I went to banking, and I knew right off the bat that this was not going to be for me.  I was not happy, I was not loving it, it was just not pleasant.  But I stayed for three years.  Because I felt like that's what I was supposed to do; I was supposed to stay, because it was a "good job".  Let me just tell you guys, that's bullcrap.  If you don't like your job, if you feel like you die a little bit every day that you go work, don't work there anymore, don't do it, don't put yourself through that, it's just not worth it.  I did three years at this job that genuinely felt like it took a part of me, it killed a part of me.  Like, I joke about it, that my time at the bank is when I lost my soul, that's when I lost my heart.  I sold my soul working at the bank.  It literally killed a part of me on the inside.  And right now, my husband is going through the same thing.  He's at a job that's been slowly eating away at him for the last two years.  And he reached the tipping point, for him, yesterday, that has him saying, no I'm done with this.  Personally, I'm happy for him.  I'm happy he reached that point, because he's been slowly dying inside for the last two years, but putting up with it because that's what he thought he was supposed to do.  It was always, it's a good job, or it pays well, or something, there was always something.  Let me tell you, it's not worth it.  No job is worth it for you to be unhappy for all the time, for two years.  There's not been a day that he's even remotely okay with going to work, for the last at least year.  So, for you, I say, just don't do it to yourself.

Like I say, speaking from experience, if you're not happy at your job, get another one.  I mean, stay where you are, but start putting out your resume, and don't just half ass it.  Don't just be like "Oh, well I'll just apply for this one job, cuz it's perfect."  No, if you really want to leave, you give your resume to any job that sounds remotely appealing.  You don't mess around.  You do it.  You go for it.  You apply anywhere and everywhere.  Eventually, something's going to happen.  It's a numbers game.  The more you apply and give out your resume, the more opportunities you're going to get.  If you only apply to one place, let's be honest, you're probably not going to get it.  But, if you apply to 20 places, you're probably going to get at least three to five calls.  So don't give me, "I don't want to apply for jobs I don't necessarily want", just get yourself out there.  Get comfortable with your resume and interviewing, because it's only going to help you in the long run.  Just because you apply, doesn't mean you'll get the job, but hey, it's got to be better than what you're doing now, that you hate, right?  So, do it.  Get serious about your resume.  Get serious about your cover letter.  All it's going to do is make your life better, easier, and happier.  I get it: nobody likes doing their cover letter.  Nobody likes doing their resume.  But put in the time, and just do it.  Just do it.  As miserable as it may be for that hour or two that you're working on it, just do it.  (I'm channeling my inner Nike here)  Just do it, and you will be grateful, I promise you.

So, that's my little rant.  I just want you guys, in case any of you are in the same boat, where you're saying, "I hate my life, I hate my job, it's all miserable".  Don't just grin and bear it.  Do something about it.  And if you need help with anything: how do I write my cover letter, how do I write my resume?  Let me know!  Say something in the comments!  I used to work for a temp agency, where that's what I did.  I would help screen people for temp jobs based on their cover letters and resumes.  Cover letters matter.  Let me repeat that: cover letters matter.  And your resume?  It's a snapshot of you!  Make it good, make it count, make it you!  Don't just make it cookie cutter, one page, whatever.  Don't be afraid to do multiple pages, to boast a little.  Talk about you, make it you, make it a testament to what kind of person you are, what kind of employee you will be!  So, if you need help with a cover letter or resume, say so in the comments.  Ask questions, where do I go to find templates or whatever, just ask, let us help you!  Everybody knows, finding a new job sucks, but everybody knows, everybody has to do it.  So let's come together!  Let's make a difference for somebody!  This is a community, so if you need help?  Ask for it.  If you can give help?  Give it.  That's what we're here for.  We're here to support each other and help each other make the most of this life.  And jobs, especially, it's something we all have, and let's be honest, most of the time people don't like their job, it's a job, so, let's try and make the most of it.  Let's try and help people get a job that actually matters and means something to them!  But anyway, that's my rant, I will let you guys go!  So, let's all get out there, and have a splendid day!

xoxo,
Kayla
