54321 Game

Hello Lovelies,

How is everyone doing today?  I hope that all is well!  I personally have had a bit of a rough day, but I'm trying to put it behind me!  I am listening to music that makes me think of sunshine and good times, I turned on my salt lamp, and I've got two awesome smelling candles burning beside me.  All in all, though it was a little rough around the edges, I'm really hoping to make the most of my evening and have a good night!

So, I hope that you guys are all doing well!  And I wanted to share a quick game that I learned about the other day that is supposed to be helpful when you're having a bad day and you need something to help ground you.  It's called the 54321 game.  To play, you name the following:
  • 5 things you can see in the room with you right now
  • 4 things you can feel right now
  • 3 things you can hear right now
  • 2 things you can smell right now(or 2 things you like the smell of)
  • 1 good thing about yourself
So, since I had a bit of a rough day, I did this exercise and I'd like to share what it looks like for you:
  • 5 things I can see:
    • My living room(my bright gypsy rugs that make me happy, my papasan chairs with bright pillows, my antique chest with cutesy gypsy decor on top)
    • My fur-kids(my Toasty is curled up on the big rug in the living room and my Diddle is guarding the backdoor)
    • My library(my crates filled with books and topped with little knickknacks such as my globe, my pyramid, my favorite candles, and next to the crates is my 2.5 foot tall giraffe[named Gerald, because he's dignified])
    • My backyard(green grass, bright red flowers, green and purple trees, my wooden windchime, and my yellow gypsy lantern)
    • My husband's wine bar(with liquor decanters on top, a cigar humidor, wine resting on the shelves, and wine glasses hanging from the top)
  • 4 things I can feel:
    • The chair and cushion beneath me
    • The balls of my feet on the floor
    • The keyboard beneath the butt of my hands
    • The breeze from my open patio door
  • 3 things I can hear:
    • Traffic going by outside
    • Miner's Tuanaki and Into the Morning albums on Spotify(if you don't know who they are, they're a folk-rock band from California.  They just give off a carefree vibe)
    • My wooden windchime outside(which reminds me of the beach)
  • 2 things I can smell:
    • My coconut and tiki beach scented candles
    • Fresh air
  • 1 good thing about myself:
    • I am focusing on good things, things that make me happy, and trying to improve my day
So, that's today's version of 54321!  It's different every time you do it, so there's always something new to notice.  I find myself breathing a little deeper, relaxing a little more, calming a little more.  I really value moments like this when I can pull myself out of a funk and get back to noticing the things that are important.  So, if you find yourself in a funk, having a bad day that you can't seem to shake, just mentally exhausted, whatever it may be, try this game.  Give yourself a few minutes to sit and just allow yourself to notice all of the things that are going on around you, all of the things around you.  And I know that saying I can see something as broad as the living room may seem overwhelming, and if it is, then focus on just 5 elements from within a room.  I tried to focus on the good things from each space, things that make me feel happy.  Do that.  If you're already having a good day, you can still do it, it's just especially helpful when you're having a bad day, but that's not to say you can only do it when you're having a rough day.  And, I find it helpful to write down the things that I'm noticing from each section.  I find that then I focus more on what the positives of each section are.  I'm not just rushing through.  Try and take your time.

Anywho, that's all for me today!  I just wanted to share the game and wish everyone a great evening!  I hope you have a great evening filled with light and love!  I'm sending love your way!  Can you feel it?  It's coming!  :) Enjoy your evening, lovelies!

xoxo,
Kona
