Hello Lovelies,
Happy Friday! I have kind of a quirky post today, I'd like to talk about hobbies. I know you're probably like, "wait what? Hobbies?" Yes, hobbies. So, as you all know, I've moved recently. And with moving comes finding new things to do, new places to go, new things to see! It's all very exciting, and yet slightly boring. You see, when you're new, there's so much potential, but you're probably a little shy, and you don't yet know where to go and what to do and what to see. So it can almost seem like you should just be a shut in all day. But, I am here to say that I have reached the point that I don't want to be a shut in! My lovely husband, Jordan, and I have been talking, and we think we can see ourselves settling down here in the state of Washington. I love the water and the forests and he loves the water and the fact that Seattle is in our backyard. So, we've been talking about it and I brought up that we should start having some hobbies, because hobbies are what makes you new friends, gets you and about, just makes you excited about life! He's all on board and totally gung-ho, so we're going to try some new hobbies as well as get back to our old hobbies.
As I was sitting here thinking about what hobbies I'd like to try, I at first thought of crafting hobbies, because let's be honest, who hasn't sat around wanting to knit a scarf or a blanket on a rainy dreary day(and we have a lot of those, it's Washington). But, I'm not the crafting type. Really, I'm abysmal at crafts. The only thing I'm worse at than crafting is gardening or taking care of plants. I killed a cactus. I'm not even joking. I tend to drown my plants. I worry they won't get enough water, that I'll forget to water them, that I instead drown them by watering them every few days. When I saw my cactus not looking too hot, my first thought was that I should water it more. It's a freaking cactus, I don't know why I, naturally, thought it needed MORE water...sometimes I worry myself. Anyway, so yeah, not a crafter. So, then I thought about the artsy hobbies: drawing, painting, photography, etc. I love the idea of these hobbies, but considering my version of drawing is stick figures...yeahhh, not so sure how well these will get along with me. But, I said to myself, I'd like to try painting, it doesn't have to painting a landscape or anything like that, it can be vague, and mysterious, and a complete mess, and hey, it's art! So, yeah, one hobby decided on. I have always been interested in photography, so that's also on my "to try" list. And hey, look at that, just like that, two hobbies on my list!
I was on a roll, adding another half a dozen hobbies to my list of things I've wanted to do but just never got around to, and I think that I'm now well prepared to start on some new hobbies, make some new friends, and just learn some new stuff! I'm excited. And when I brought it up to Jordan, he started thinking about hobbies and what he would like to do, and I think that he's got a few ideas now too, and he's excited too.
I guess the whole point of this post is to remind you that even though your life may be stagnant, or maybe it's complete chaos, you need to find things you're excited about. Finding things that you're excited about, hobbies, helps you to feel like you're filling voids you didn't know you had. Allow yourself the creative freedom to express yourself however you see fit! It's those hobbies that help make you, you. Those hobbies make you interesting, instead of a slob that sits at home watching TV, playing video games, and never interacting with other people or seeing the light of day. No one likes those people, so don't be that person! Get out there, find your path, do what excites you! At the end of the day, even if you fail miserably at a hobby, like I might with painting, I can say I've tried it, and give people a good laugh as they see my horrible attempt at painting. Or, it might turn out beautiful, and I can then show people and inspire them to find their own path that maybe they didn't really think was possible. I've always been a dreamer. I've always known that the world is my oyster, the problem has been finding what I want within that oyster. Now, I'm getting to the point where I say, let's try everything. Let's make the most of this oyster. Let's live life, not just tiptoe through it. Make a mess, laugh a lot, be radiant and explosive, so you reach the end of your life with stories for days and memories for a lifetime. No one remembers the nights you got plenty of sleep, so get out there. Be bold. Be daring. Be you. If you've always wanted to try something, no matter how crazy, get out there, try it! Don't be afraid to make mistakes, because mistakes are how we learn. A great quote I saw the other day: The difference between a master and a beginner is that the master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried. So try. Try something new. Fail at something new. Try it again. And if you just don't like it, then sure, go try something different. But, don't not do something just because you don't think you'll be good at it. I've never been drawn to drawing, but painting, yes. So even though my drawing skills are that of a two year old, I'm going to try painting. It might by laughable, but it might be lovely. Either way, I'll be able to say I've done it. That, is what will make me proud.
So, that's my word of advice for you! Get out there! It's a Friday, at least for me it is, maybe when you read this it won't be anymore, but pretend it is! Pretend you have a weekend approaching, even if your weekend isn't Saturday and Sunday, pretend you have a day off tomorrow, if you don't really, and think of something you've wanted to try, but haven't, and then next time you have a day off, go do it! Don't be a fuddy duddy sitting at home, watching TV, playing video games in your mom's basement, ignoring all of humanity, though, if you were ignoring all of humanity, you probably wouldn't be reading this blog, but hey, you know what I mean! Get out there! Live YOUR life. Be you, unfiltered, unmistakable, unbreakable you. Let your true colors show. Let me know in the comments what your hobbies are, what you want to try, or maybe an achievement from trying something new! I'm aquiver with curiosity! (ten points for Gryffindor if you get that movie reference! It's from one of my favorites!)
xoxo
